Bakery & Cafe

Tradition hat einen guten Geschmack… Tradition has a good taste…

Born and raised in Kitzbuhel, Austria, Konditor Fred Pendl began his apprenticeship at the age of 14. After working in Kitzbuhel, London, Holland, and Munich, Fred was offered a position at a new Austrian pastry shop in a little ski resort in Idaho. Fred and his wife Edith arrived in Sun Valley in 1966 and Poor Richard’s Konditorei opened in January 1967. The Konditorei quickly became a Sun Valley après ski tradition. Warm Apple Strudel mit Schlag was tough to beat after a day on Baldy, as was the good conversation and great music always found at the Konditorei.

In 1979, Fred opened his own shop, Pendl’s Pastries. There the traditions of fine pastry making and a Konditorei atmosphere continued for another 10 years. After raising four daughters through 22 years of pastry making, Fred retired in 1989.

In 2003, daughter Martha rekindled her father’s recipes and rituals by opening Pendl’s Bakery & Café at the base of the Teton Mountains in Driggs, Idaho. As her father before, Martha strives to offer the best pastries and atmosphere for miles around. Visit us and discover the traditions we are happy and proud to share with you again.
